    Our client are looking to recruit a permanent Process Engineer with a passion for engineering to join their growing skilled team in their Harwell Office.

    The Process Engineer vacancy is principally a hands-on design based role. You will be responsible for the development of systems and processes from first principals and work with a multi-disciplined team to deliver the system to the client. The role often requires the development of innovative solutions to difficult technical challenges. You could be responsible for delivering a package of work within a project and will have frequent liaison with the client.

    You will be in the earlier stages of your career development but with some years delivering engineering process design. You might be a good graduate who has completed a few years following a graduate scheme, and is now looking for a new challenge and to develop your technical expertise, or a more experienced engineer that is keen to stay in a ‘hands-on’ technical design position.

    Key responsibilities of a Process Engineer:

  • Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications and requirements.
  • Prepare supporting design calculations to substantiation of designs.
  • Check design calculations of designers, graduates and other engineers within the team.
  • Actively contribute to design & safety reviews (Risk Assessments & HAZOP’s) from technical standpoint.
  • Preparation of technical specifications in liaison with client and project team.
  • Produce design documentation throughout the design process including scope of works, method statements, risk assessments, technical files and other technical documentation to comply with design standards, safety legislation/regulatory requirements and those of the client.
  • Prepare installation, commissioning and operating documents.
  • Planning & allocation of workload to members of design team in order to deliver packages of work.
  • Management of sub-contractors providing niche services to the design.
  • Responsible for managing the quality of the output of their team or their own deliverables.
  • Responsible for adherence to internal procedures and external codes, standards and directives.
  • Possible responsible for managing project packages that are sub-contracted to third parties.
  • Creating designs that are compliant with safety regulations and EU Directives (e.g. CDM and CE marking).
  • Ensure safety of working environment via design.

    Position of the Process Engineer within the organisation:

  • Reporting to Senior, Principal Engineers and chief engineers.
  • Often managing a small team of designers or design engineers.
  • Managing and checking the output of the piping engineering section.
  • Interaction with engineers of other disciplines, both internal and external.
  • Supervises support staff in delivery of work packages.

    Required Experience & Qualifications

    Essential:

  • A recognized chemical engineering degree qualification.
  • Membership of IChemE or actively working towards membership (our client has an accredited IChemE graduate training scheme and encourages and supports graduate engineers to attain chartered status).
  • Over 5 Years’ experience in the role of design in a nuclear environment, or other equivalent highly regulated industry.
  • Good understanding of P&ID layout, development and implementation.
  • Ability to working to tight deadlines & a strong team player attitude.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions.
  • Concept through to commissioning experience (full lifecycle).
  • Good understanding of Statutory and safety Regulations and their appropriate utilisation.
  • Proven track record within a project environment with strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Good customer/client liaison skills and good commercial awareness.
  • Demonstrable competence gained in a design delivery position.
  • Good general knowledge of process and chemical engineering design.

    Desirable:

  • Expertise in the nuclear industry.
  • Design for manufacture expertise.
  • Inspection, Installation, Commissioning experience.
  • Management and technical delivery of medium sized design teams in the delivery of scheme / preliminary design packages.
  • Experience of leading teams within a project environment.
  • Management of sub-contractors providing niche services to the design.
  • Engineering analysis using ASPEN or similar.
  • Knowledge of piping engineering.
  • Knowledge of waste water or sludge treatment.
  • Tritium experience.
  • Process design for highly active environments.
  • Human Factors knowledge.
  • Experience in manufacture and design of piping and skid projects.
  • Glovebox design and manufacture.
  • Strong knowledge and high standards in drafting and drawing checking.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Expertise in the nuclear industry.
  • Design for manufacture expertise.
